The new cool

Researchers at the University of British Columbia have found that the iconic image of the rebel, embodied by the likes of James Dean and Marlon Brando, is no longer what people identify with the term "cool." The new cool is a friendly, good-looking, industrious person, who dresses well, fits in and is trendy; someone "your mother would want you to be," according to Ilan Dar-Nimrod, a researcher on the study.

And these people still aren't cool, and... probably never will be.

Confusion said...

That reads to me like an interesting piece of research to get my hands on.

But really, they seem to be confusing concepts. I've never heard of someone being called cool for being a mama's boy.
I'd say more that cool is determined by the social sphere you exist in and whatever characteristics people want in those, right?
